The Sekuru Sande Primary School, built to honour Silas and carry his name, was officially opened by the Zimbabwean Salvation Army in partnership with the Swiss Salvation Army, in October 2022. It serves the over seven hundred disadvantaged children who live in the high-density Hobhouse area outside Mutare. For me, personally, it is this school that is the most poignant reminder of Silas: a memorial befitting that quiet gentle man who protected and cared for children.
